Slide 18: Climatic processes modelled in a GCM
The GCM is based on thermodynamic equations and equations of motion, which are linked by density transforms and advection. Furthermore, radiation transfer functions and equations of water vapour are also present, linked by heating and cooling, moisture transfers, heat of condensation, and advection. the heat balance and hydrology of the earth's surface is also modelled, and these are linked to the equations of water vapour by precipitation and evaporation, and to radiation transfer functions by heat energy transfer and snow cover feedback. Each of these linkages is governed by one or more complex equations, and the internal workings and processes of a GCM are clearly highly complex.
