Slide 34: Models and their selection - GARP
GARP (the Genetic Algorithms for Ruleset Production system) combines several of these different ruletypes when deducing rulesets for species suitability. It is an iterative process, that randomly generates a number of rules, assesses how well they fit the data, then prunes the best-fitting models. These are then combined to some extent, with small variations, to produce another "generation" of rules, and the process of selection and elimination is repeated. Through this process, the best-fitting rulesets are quickly derived, and they may constitute a combination of the different rule types.
