Slide 32: Models and their selection - BioClimatic Envelope
This is a simple description of the bioclimatic envelope method of species distribution modelling. The database of environmental values at known species locations is compiled as usual, and the model then determines the range of these characteristics within which the species is observed by simply selecting the outer values. These are used to construct a ruleset which is then applied to the full set of environmental characteristics in order to extrapolate the hypothetical distribution. This is tested against the evaluation dataset, and the process is repeated until the model has a basic minimum level of accuracy.
