Did you know?

Until very recently, scientists thought there was only one species of Galaxias in Cape rivers and wetlands. Genetic tests have shown that there may actually be seven endemic species. Some of these species are found in only one or two rivers, so it is even more important to look after the health of all our rivers. Cape Town probably has two species of Galaxias, one in mountain streams and the other in the lowlands. You can find both species in the Liesbeeck River.
