Slide 13: The role of climate models
So, what is the role of climate models in all of this? Once historical and climatological data has been gathered, we have some idea of how the climate has changed in the past, and we also know what atmospheric and biological conditions were associated with this change. This allows us to build and test models of the interaction of climatic variables. These models allow us some capacity to then establish how a given change in certain factors will affect future climate. This becomes the basis for assessment of the current state of the environment. We will go into this in more detail in chapter 2.
