Entelodonts fighting as seen in "Walking with Beasts"

Probably the meanest animals found on the Mongolian plains 25 million year ago, were the Entelodonts. They were huge pig-like scavengers, some over two meters tall and weighing up to 350 kilograms, yet they only had a tiny brain as small as an orange. Their huge skull was designed to crush bones, but they probably also ate plant material. The fossil record suggests that they were aggressive animals, fighting amongst each other as many of their bones are scarred with teeth marks inflicted by their own kind. They had bony lumps all over their faces that were perfectly placed to protect delicate areas such as their eyes and nose. Fossils have not only been found in Mongolia, but also in North America. (20)
