Apidium

Apidium

Apidium as portrayed in documentary "Walking with Beasts"

Apidium was a diurnal primate that lived roughly between 36-34 million years ago in what is now the Sahara dessert. Their teeth suggest that they ate fruit and insects and from their bone structure one can assume that they were well adapted to walking along branches and also leap fro tree to tree. They lived together in social groups with the males being bigger than the females, their average height being between 25-30 centimeters. Many fossils have been found in the Fayum deposits in Egypt.
